Brian Ullmann was promoted to Deputy Athletic Director/Chief Strategy Officer in August 2024.
He returned to the Maryland athletics department as the Executive Associate Athletic Director/Chief Strategy Officer in July of 2019. He enters his sixth school year on the job in 2024-25.
Ullmann is responsible for formulating, communicating, executing and sustaining strategic initiatives focused on accelerating athletic department performance through cohesive strategy planning and execution. In his role, Ullmann serves as a key advisor to the Director of Athletics and will be responsible for the administrative oversight of External Operations, Development and Communications.
A 1992 Maryland graduate, Ullmann has spent 14 years of his 25+ year career in roles at University of Maryland on both the campus and athletics side, serving as Associate Vice President, Marketing and Communications for the University from 2010-17 and the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations for the Athletic Department from 2004-10. Most recently, Ullmann served as the Vice President, Marketing and Communications for Rare, a global conservation organization.
Ullmann graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor's Degree in journalism in 1992 and currently resides in Arlington, Va.
