Terp Swimming Notes

ON A ROLL: Both the men's and women's swimming teamsenter their meet against West Virginia with a 2-0 record. Themen have averaged 172 points in their victories over La Salleand Duke while the women have averaged 186 against those sametwo opponents.

SEEKING TO BOUNCE BACK: The West Virginia Mountaineerslook to rebound from a tough loss to Big East Conference rivalMiami (Florida) in their only duel meet of the season. The menlost a 122-120 heartbreaker while the women were defeated by aslim 126-115 margin.

THREE IN A ROW: In the victory over Duke, junior diverAlyssa Anderson qualified for the Regional Championships in theone meter competition for the third consecutive year. Her scoreof 245.7 points topped the 245 minimum score needed to qualify.

HOME POOL ADVANTAGE: Against La Salle, the men won theirfourth straight meet at Cole Field House Pool while the womenwon their fifth consecutive contest. The women finished lastseason at home with a perfect 4-0 mark while the men finished3-1.

TRANSFERS AMONG TOP SWIMMERS: Sophomore Kim Piotro andJunior Heather Wilson, each of whom just transferred toMaryland, have had an immediate impact on the Terps. Piotro, whotransfered from Cal State-Northridge, won both the 100 and 200yard freestyle races against La Salle. Wilson, who transferedfrom Arizona, won both the 200 and 500 yard freestyle racesagainst Duke.

PICKING UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF: Junior Scott Grayson, whoqualified for the NCAA Championships last season, has once againhelped pace the men's team. Grayson won the 200 yard breastrokein the meet against La Salle and 200 yard individual medley inboth of the Terp's meets.

DOUBLE WINNERS: In each of the Terp's meets this season,several other swimmers have won two individual events. AgainstLa Salle, freshman Krista Irish won both the one and three meterdiving competitions, sophomore Scott Budde won both the 200 and500 yard freestyle races and Drew Smith won the 200 yardbutterfly and 1000 yard freestyle races. Against Duke, freshmanSarah Solomon won both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle races.

TERPS PERFECT IN RELAYS: Heading into their meet againstWest Virginia, both the men's and women's team's have finishedfirst every relay race they have swam this season this season.
