October 18 Providence 1:00 P.M. TERPS RANKED THIRD IN NCAA POLL: Maryland (14-1) climbed two spots to No. 3 in the latest NCAA poll of the top twenty Division I field hockey teams. The poll, which was released today, has Old Dominion (13-1) maintaining the top spot, followed by Virginia (12-1), the Terps, North Carolina (10-2) and Princeton (9-0). James Madision (11-3) and Penn State (10-4) are tied for sixth, while Providence (11-2), Northeastern (8-3) and New Hampshire (9-4) round out the top ten. LAST WEEK'S RESULTS: Maryland got goals from senior forward Nadine Bennett (Chegutu, Zimbabwe), freshman forward Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Christine DeBow (West Chester, Pa.) to defeat sixth-ranked James Madison 3-1 on Wednesday. Freshman midfielder Kelly Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.) scored a pair of goals and Bennett and freshman back Marloes Platzek (Delft, The Netherlands) added a goal each as the Terps shut out Rutgers 4-0 on Friday. Against Temple on Sunday, Tagliente scored twice and Bennett added a goal leading Maryland to 3-0 win to close out the week. TERP OPPONENTS THIS WEEK: Two top ten teams come to College Park for the Terps' final two home games of the year. On Thursday, the Terps play fifth-ranked Princeton (9-0) and on Saturday, they take on eighth-ranked Providence (11-2). SCORING LEADERS: Senior forward Lynsey McVicker (Balleymoney, Northern Ireland) leads the Terps in total points with 37 (10 goals, 17 assists). Bennett leads the team in goals, with 17. Tagliente has 15. Junior midfielder Jen Pratt (Greene, N.Y.) continues to lead the NCAA in assists with 23.
