This Week in Field Hockey

NATIONAL RANKINGS: Maryland is currently ranked fifth in the nation among NCAA Division I field hockey teams. Old Dominion is ranked first, followed by Virginia, North Carolina, Penn State and Maryland. James Madison, Princeton, New Hampshire, Ball State, Providence and Syracuse round up the top ten (the last two schools tied for tenth in the voting).

LAST WEEKS RESULTS: Senior forward Nadine Bennett (Chegutu, Zimbabwe) scored the first four goals of the game, leading Maryland to an 8-1 win over Delaware on Thursday. Bennett, senior forward Lynsey McVicker (Balleymoney, Northern Ireland) and senior midfielder Christine DeBow (West Chester, Pa.) each scored a goal in the Terps' 3-0 ACC victory over Wake Forest on Saturday.

TERP OPPONENTS THIS WEEK: Old Dominion comes to College Park ranked number one in the nation with a record of 10-0. On Sunday, the Monarchs shut out Virginia 2-0 to remain unbeaten. The Cavaliers are currently 8-1. Earlier in the year, they upset North Carolina 2-0.

RECORD BREAKER: With 18 assists this season, junior midfielder Jen Pratt (Greene, N.Y.) has already set the school record for assists in a season. Teammate Nadine Bennett held the previous record by assisting on 17 goals last season.

SCORING LEADERS: Senior forward Lynsey McVicker leads the Terps with 32 points. She has scored nine goals and has had 14 assists. Freshman forward Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) leads the Terps with 12 goals. Senior forward Nadine Bennett has 11 goals and freshman back Marloes Platzek has 10.
