
Maryland Opens Big Ten Championships With Strong Performances

LINCOLN, NE - The Maryland Terrapins track and field team competed in day one of the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday. The team turned in some program record setting performances Friday highlighted by Mehdi Guerrah and Naaema Robinson.
Mehdi Guerrah started out the hour-long stretch which saw the Terrapins set six new personal bests between the men's 400 meter hurdles, women's 200 meters and men's 200 meters.
Guerrah finished fifth overall in the 400-meter hurdles preliminaries and qualified for the event finals, which will take place Sunday. With the performance, the junior also recorded the fifth-fastest time in program history, clocking in at 50.66 seconds.
Naaema Robinson reset her own program record time in the 200 meters after running a time of 23.46 seconds in the 200 meters. A record that the freshman previously set at a time of 23.79 seconds at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge in March.
Armanie Coleman moved up to second all-time in the 200 meters after recording a time of 23.69 seconds, Coleman improved on the third best all-time mark in the event she previously held.
Roman Spikes improved his time to 20.58 seconds in the 200 meters to set a new second all-time mark, The sophomore already held the second best all-time mark in the event.
Sam Ford climbed up the top-10 ranks from 10th all-time all the way up to 20.71 seconds and a new third all-time mark in the 200 meters.
