WACO, TX – No. 21 Maryland was no-hit by No. 22 Baylor and reigning National Pitcher of the Week Dariana Orme as the Bears beat the Terps, 5-0, on Friday afternoon in Game 2 of the Baylor Invitational.
The Terps are now 9-2 overall as the 9-1 start to the season equaled Maryland's best start since the 2012 season. With a win against Baylor, Maryland would have had its best start since 2008, when the Terps began the year 19-1.
Baylor, which beat No. 1 Oklahoma – the defending national champions – last Sunday moved to 9-1 overall. Orme, who pitched a perfect game last weekend against Stephen F. Austin and didn't allow and earned run in beating the Sooners, struck out 11.
Michaela Jones (via walk) and Taylor Liguori (via error) were the only Terps to reach base.
Courtney Wyche started for the Terps and allowed six hits and four runs, striking out four. Fulshear, Texas native Nicole Bodeux replaced Wyche in making her college debut and had a strikeout.
Fellow Texas Sydney Lewis, from Propser, TX, pinch hit in the sixth inning.
