Terps Sweep Big Ten Weekly Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After leading the No. 2 Maryland women’s lacrosse team to two wins last week, three Terps earned Big Ten weekly honors. Attacker Megan Whittle was named Offensive Player of the Week, goalie Megan Taylor was selected as Defensive Player of the Week and midfielder Grace Griffin earned Freshman of the Week honors.

In two top-ten wins over No. 8 Penn and No. 4 James Madison last week, Whittle led the Terps in points (10), goals (seven) and assists (three), notching four goals against Penn and three against JMU. Against the Dukes in front of a record crowd on Saturday, Whittle reached the 250-goal plateau for her career, becoming only the second Terp to do so.

Megan Taylor posted 25 saves and allowed 9.5 goals per game in the two wins. She tied her season-high with 13 saves and recorded her highest save percentage of the season at .650 in the win at No. 8 Penn. The junior also totaled a season-best three groundballs against the Quakers. Taylor also made 12 saves against the Dukes, including a crucial stop late in the game with the Terps holding a two-score lead to halt a JMU run.

Grace Griffin scored four goals and added two assists and two groundballs in a pair of wins this past week. The freshman had a breakout game against JMU, leading the team with four goals and tying for the team lead with five points.
