Kicking It Off: Maryland defeated Michigan 23-16 Saturday afternoon at Michigan Stadium earning the Terps their first all-time win against the Wolverines. Michigan had won the previous three meetings over Maryland. The Terps improved to 7-4 and 4-3 in the Big Ten with the victory, while Michigan fell to 5-6 and 3-4 in the conference.
New Record Holder: Quarterback C.J. Brown’s eight-yard touchdown run to start the fourth quarter marked the 54th touchdown Brown has been responsible for in his career. It is a new Maryland record passing the previous record holder, Scott Milanovich (1992-95).
Brown finished with 252 total yards of offense moving him into second on the all-time list leaping Chris Turner (6,385, 2007-09). Brown has 6,596 career total yards of offense. Scott Milanovich (1992-95) holds the school record with 7,111 yards.
Monroe Ties All-Time Mark: Defensive lineman Andre Monroe picked up his team-leading 9.5 sack of the season. For the senior, Monroe now has 24 career sacks tying him with Mike Corvino (1979-1982) for the school record. Monroe’s 9.5 sacks this season matches his total from a year ago.
No. 6: Defensive back William Likely intercepted his sixth pass of the season Saturday afternoon. Likely’s six picks are the most for a Terp since Tony Jackson intercepted six passes in 2001 and are tied for the seventh-highest single-season total in school history. Likely’s 29-yard return increased his season total to a single-season school-record 170 interception return yards.
Likely entered the weekend tied for the Big-Ten lead in interceptions and tied for seventh nationally within FBS.
Streak Extended: With field goals from 21, 38 and 41 yards, kicker Brad Craddock has now converted 23 straight field goal attempts, the longest active streak in FBS, and moved into second in Big Ten history passing Iowa’s Nate Kaeding (22, 2001-02). Ohio State’s Mike Nugent holds the conference record with 24 consecutive makes from 2001-02. Craddock is 17-for-17 this season, 10-of-10 from 40 yards or more, and is the only kicker in FBS who is perfect.
Craddock Passes Plocki: With three field goals, Craddock increased his career total to 48 and his career point total 240. Both totals passed Dan Plocki (1985-88) on the all-time Maryland charts. Craddock now ranks third all-time in career field goals made and career points by a kicker.
