COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Postgame notes following Maryland's 52-24 loss to No. 20 Ohio State at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
Kicking It Off: In the first all-time meeting between the two schools, Ohio State defeated Maryland 52-24 Saturday afternoon at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium. Maryland fell to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Big Ten, while Ohio State improved to 4-1 and 1-0 in the conference. Saturday marked the Terps’ first-ever home Big Ten contest.
School Record: Kicker Brad Craddock set a program record with a 57-yard field goal to get Maryland on the scoreboard Saturday afternoon. Craddock’s kick bested the previous school record by three yards, which was held by Nick Novak and Steve Mike-Mayer. Novak hit a 54-yarder against Duke in 2003, while Mike-Mayer hit a 54-yarder against Villanova in 1973.
Entering Saturday, Craddock’s field goal ranks as the second-longest in a FBS game this season.
Still Perfect: Kicker Brad Craddock converted his 17th straight field goal attempt to set a new Maryland record when he drilled a 57-yarder in the first quarter. Maryland’s record for consecutive field goals made had been held by Dale Castro, who hit 16 straight field goal attempts during the 1979 season. On the season, Craddock is 11-for-11.
Diggs Extends Streak: With a team-high seven catches for 52 yards, wide receiver Stefon Diggs extended his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 24, one shy of the fourth-longest streak in school history. Diggs moved past Russ Weaver (1992-94) for sixth in school history with a 124 career receptions and has 900 career receiving yards, which ranks fifth all-time. In addition, Diggs caught his 12th career touchdown, which is tied for sixth all-time with Gary Collins (1959-1961).
In The Backfield: Linebacker Yannick Ngakoue finished with 1.5 TFL against the Buckeyes. Ngakoue now has a team-best 8.5 TFL on the season and is on pace for 17, which would tie for the fifth-highest average in school history. Ngakoue entered the weekend tied for first in tackles for loss in the Big Ten.
On The Sack: Defensive lineman Andre Monroe recorded his team-leading fourth and fifth sacks of the season increasing his career total to 19.5. Monroe moved into third place all-time at Maryland. The Terrapin career record for sacks is 24 held by Mike Corvino (1979-1982).
Punch It In: Running back Wes Brown scored Maryland’s first touchdown of the afternoon on a 2-yard plunge. It is Brown’s first rushing touchdown of the season and the third of his career. The sophomore is the fifth Maryland rusher to score this season. In 2013, Maryland had three rushers score.
Offensive Notes: Running back Brandon Ross led the Terps in rushing with 38 yards on eight carries and scored his seventh career touchdown … wide receiver Jacquille Veii led Maryland with a career-best 78 yards receiving.
Defensive Notes: Maryland finished with a season-best four sacks … a week after totaling 19 tackles, linebacker Cole Farrand led all defenders with 17 … defensive back Sean Davis recorded a career-best 14 tackles … linebacker L.A. Goree and defensive back William Likely each finished with double-digit stops, 14 and 10, respectively … linebacker Yannik Cudjoe-Virgil tallied his first sack of the season.
