Aubrey Wurst threw 5.2 shutout frames in a solid Saturday outing.

LYNCHBURG, VA — Maryland fell behind early against Liberty, and the Terps' comeback fell short in a 3-2 loss to wrap up the Liberty Softball Classic on Saturday afternoon. Maryland fell to 6-9 as the Terps split Saturday's doubleheader.

Liberty jumped ahead early with a three-run, five-hit first inning that featured a two-run homer off the bat of Alexia Carrasquillo. The Flames' early 3-0 lead held until the top of the fourth, when Taylor Borovac got the Terps on the board with a sacrifice fly, plating Bailey Murphy.

After taking over the pitching duties in the first inning, Aubrey Wurst recorded a remarkable 5.2 innings of shutout ball. She allowed just six hits across 107 pitches as she kept her Terps within striking distance. Maryland's Caroline Fox was able to play against her sister, Ella, on Saturday afternoon.

Maryland put the tying run on base in the seventh, and Anna McGowan brought the Terps within a run with a sacrifice-fly of her own, but Camden Anders closed out her complete-game effort as she went the distance on Saturday. After both recording three hits against Toledo in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, Sammi Woods and Murphy logged two hits against the Flames. Maryland tallied five hits in the loss.

B1: Back-to-back leadoff extra-base hits opened a 1-0 Liberty lead.

T4: Murphy ripped a leadoff double for her fifth hit of the double header.
