Terps Water Polo Hands Out Awards at Annual Banquet

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's water polo handed our awards at its annual banquet which was held Sunday in Heritage Hall of Comcast Center.

Head coach Carl Salyer and the Terps named Blaise Stanicic the Most Valuable Player of the 2008 season, after leading the team with 44 assists and finishing second with 83 points.

Allie Houseal and Anna Gossett were recognized for their hard work and commitment as they exhausted their eligibility last spring. Allison Beck's 44 points on 28 goals and 16 assists in 34 starts earned her the Rookie of the Year award.

Senior Christen Vagts swiped the Defensive Player of the Year award as she recorded 58 steals last season. Jill Lau and Meghan Powers shared Most Improved Player honors.

Houseal and Stanicic were also recognized for their work as captains of the team last year.
