Maryland Water Polo Plays Host to Alumni Game

Oct. 31, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland water polo team under the guidance of head coach Carl Salyer competed in its annual alumni game last Sunday. The game served as a first look at this year's team, as well as a reconnection to the graduates of the past few seasons.

The current crop of Terps outlasted the Alumni team, 11-10, on a mid-pool goal by Blaise Stanicic with only four seconds left in the game.

Eight former Terps joined Anna Gossett and Allie Houseal from last year's squad that made it to the CWPA Eastern semifinals to play against the varsity team.

Other former Terps playing for the Alumni team were Julie Jordan, Orsi Ferenczy, Kelly Haisfield, Colleen McShane, Linneah Riedlinger, and current assistant coach Meghan Sullivan.

Gossett blocked four shots in the first three quarters and scored a goal in the fourth, when she moved from goalkeeper.

Houseal and Haisfield each landed two goals and Riedlinger chipped in a goal of her own.

The varsity team put on their yearly pre-game dance to rev up the crowd.
