Terps Water Polo Wins Two at Princeton Invitational
Feb. 18, 2006
In their first Princeton Invitational game, the Terrapins defeated Villanova 10-6. High scorers for Maryland were Rachel Jordan with four goals and Elizabeth Hopkins with three. Blaise Stanicic, Juli Jordan, and Christen Vagts each added one.
Defensively, the Terps rectified a shaky first half and "locked them down" in the second half according to coach Carl Salyer.
The team carried that strong defensive effort into their second game of the day, holding opponent Marist to three goals. The Terps topped Marist 5-3.
Scoring was evenly distributed for the Terrapins, with Hopkins, Stanicic, Vagts, Klein, and Allison Kuzniar each netting one goal.
Goalie Corwin allowed only one goal and blocked one in the first half, and Jobson blocked five and allowed two in the second half.
The team looks to improve upon a 5-for-28 shooting effort against Marist in their upcoming game versus Harvard. Salyer explains that Maryland is "a young team that is working on being able to convert scoring opportunities into goals."
