Wagener Named to CVU.com Stellar Spikers Team

Feb. 10, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior middle-blocker Rachel Wagener was named to the inaugural Collegiate Volleyball Update.com (CVU.com) Stellar Spikers Second Team, the group announced last month. Wagener is among 70 collegiate volleyball players in the nation, and one of two in the Atlantic Coast Conference on the Second Team, who were honored.

CVU.com recognized players who exhibited excellence, balance and were instrumental in helping her team succeed with conference achievements in 2005. NCAA statistical rankings, conference awards and player impact were all factors considered for the award.

Wagener helped the Terrapins to a 28-5 record (18-4 ACC) to finish as 2005 ACC Co-Champions. She led the Terps with 405 kills (2.47 kpg), a .380 attack percentage and 197 total blocks (1.97 bpg) during the season.

In her senior season, she was named ACC Player of the Week, an All-ACC First Team selection and to the AVCA All-Region Division I Team.

Wagener leaves her mark in the University of Maryland record books after compiling impressive statistics throughout her career. She was a team member of the 2003 and 2004 ACC Championship teams and posts a 91-42 (44-26 ACC) career record.

She amassed a career high of 649 blocks and 565 block assists landing her No. 1 on the University of Maryland's All-Time list in those categories. She also is third all-time in solo blocks (84), fifth all-time in career kills (1,147) and ninth in career total attack attempts (2,402).

Wagener holds the first and second position in all-time single-season statistics in block assists (177 in 2003, 169 in 2005) and total blocks (200 in 2004, 197 in 2005). She also ranks second and tenth in single-season hitting percentage with a .380 hitting percentage in 2005 and a .327 in 2004.
