Maryland Wins Eighth Straight with Win Over George Mason

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The University of Maryland volleyball team ran its record to 8-0 this evening, and captured the 1997 Ramada New Carrollton Invitational title, after defeating George Mason in three games, 15-5, 15-13, 15-11. The Terps recorded a 3-0 record at this years tournament to earn the title.

Freshman outside hitter Katie Jentes totaled a team-high 15 kills and hit .423 to lead the Terps on offense. The Terps also had two other players record double-figure kills with senior Elizabeth Efron pounding down 10, and junior Jaime Summers recording 14. Summers led the team with a .429 hitting percentage. Efron led the Terps defensively with 18 digs and three blocks.

Senior setter Eden Kroeger, who posted 43 assists, was named the tournaments MVP. Efron and Jentes joined Kroeger on the all-tournament team.

The Terps open ACC action this weekend when they travel to North Carolina and N.C. State for weekend matches.
