Maryland Defeats Ohio State to Capture Oregon State Tournament

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Showing why each had dominated their respective opposition throughout the weekend, Maryland and Ohio State gave the Oregon native a tournament finale five-game thriller Saturday night. The Terrapins made it dramatic as possible, winning the first and fourth games before taking the deciding fifth. When the smoke finally cleared, Maryland had won 18-16, 12-15, 8-15, 15-11, 15-12.

Unlike OSU, whose Vanessa Wouters had a match high 33 kills and team high 19 digs, Maryland relied on a more thorough effort from the entire team. Elizabeth Efron led the way with 20 kills, Kim Adolfs had 16, Jaime Summers pitched in 15 and Cony Jabari-Kitwala finished with 13 (Jabari-Kitwala also had a match high .381 hitting percentage.) Eden Kroeger had 61 assists and 22 digs, both team highs.

Wouters 33 kills gave her a .300 hitting percentage. Jen Flynn had a match high 66 kills and 17 digs for OSU. On the whole, the teams were very close in nearly every category. The Buckeyes had 30 errors, Maryland 28. OSU hit .264, the Terrapins hit .266. The Buckeyes had seven blocks, Maryland nine. The game concluded the tournament, Maryland escaped unscathed and has started the campaign 4-0. OSU fell to 2-1.
