Terps Eclipse DukeWomen's Volleyball finishes season in victory.

COLLEGE PARK, MD-- The University of Maryland womenis volleyball team closed out the 1998 regular season with a 3-1 victory over ACC rival Duke at Ritchie Coliseum on Saturday night. Despite being a close contest throughout the entire match, the Terps pulled out the victory, winning 10-15, 16-14, 15-6, 15-13. This was Marylandis second consecutive victory over an ACC opponent in as many nights. The Terps defeated Florida State on Friday night 3-2 (15-12, 9-15, 5-15, 15-13, 16-14).
Maryland (12-15, 5-11) dropped the first game to the Blue Devils (9-19, 4-12), but rallied to take three straight games for the victory. The Terps were led by junior outside hitter Kate Hannas (Ellicott City, Md.) who recorded 19 kills for a team high .395 hitting percentage and also added 21 digs. Redshirt freshman middle hitter Katie Cramer (Loveland, Colo.) also had an impressive outing as she totaled 17 kills for a .344 hitting percentage.
Defensively, junior outside hitter Beth Murphy (Golden, Colo.) led the Terps with 25 digs, senior middle hitter Jaime Summers (Conneaut Lake, Pa.) recorded 22 digs and senior outside hitter Kim Adolphs (Runcorn, Australia) registered 19 digs.
Freshman Libby Alberts (Eden Prairie, Minn.) also contributed with 21 digs and 65 assists.
The Blue Devils were led by junior outside hitter Sarah Peifer (Tampa, Fla.) who totaled 17 kills, senior outside hitter Megan Irvine (Wasilla, Ak.) who added 16 kills, and junior Jami Ediger (La Habra, Calif.) who recorded 11 kills. Freshman setter Pam Gottfred (Golf, Ill.) and sophomore Nina Rybak (Bloomington, Minn.) contributed with 28 and 24 assists, respectively.
Maryland will next play host to the ACC Volleyball Tournament at Ritchie Coliseum on Nov. 19 through Nov. 22.
