Volleyball Loses Road Match at North Carolina

Nov. 4, 2007

Final Stats

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Senior co-captains Beth Gillming (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Jade Brown (Atlanta, Ga.) both posted at least 13 kills for the Terrapins in a 3-0 (23-30, 18-30, 25-30) loss against the North Carolina Tar Heels Sunday afternoon at Carolina's Carmichael Auditoreum.

Gillming paced the Terps (15-10, 7-9) with 15 kills while Brown added 13.

The first game looked like anyone's to take about midway through, but the Tar Heels (12-13, 8-8) took over down the stretch, finishing on a big run to win by seven. Christine Vaughen had eight kills in the game for Carolina while Gillming posted four for the Terps.

Game two was much of the same from game one: close early, followed by a big spurt from the Tar Heels in their 12-point win. Brown recorded six kills in the session, but it was not enough.

Game three was a little close than the first two, but Carolina would not be denied on their home court and took the game and the match.

The Terps were out-hit in the match .350-.208.

Sophomore setter Hayley Hanson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) had a team-high 30 assists.

Junior libero Maggie Schmelzle (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished with 17 digs while Gillming finished with 13.

The Terps are on the road again next weekend, beginning with Miami at 7 p.m. Friday and Florida State at 7 p.m. Saturday.
