Stancu faces Nazari Urbina of Texas A&M in the opening round of the 64-player tournament at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. With a win, Stancu will advance to play the winner of the match between Florida's Lauren Embree and Tulsa's Anastasia Erofeeva on Thursday. The native of Constanta, Romania, joins Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar (2011) as recent Maryland participants. Prior to Sanchez-Quintanar, Romona Butt was the last Terrapin to qualify for the NCAA tournament in 2006. Stancu is 22-10 this year with nine victories over nationally-ranked opponents including four wins over players in the field. In the fall, Stancu became the first Terp to win the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional singles championship and advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. All matches in the tournament are the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches. Update (5/23 at 1:13 p.m.): UCLA's Robin Anderson and Skylar Morton have withdrawn from the NCAA Division I Women's Doubles Championship. As a result, Maryland's Ana Belzunce and Welma Luus are now participating in the 32-team field. They will open with Georgia Tech's Jillian O'Neill and Alex Anghelescu on Thursday.
