Day One Complete at Kitty Harrison Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, Nc. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team opened play at the Kitty Harrison Invitational with six singles victories and three doubles wins. The Terps played 12 singles matches against opponents from William and Mary, Eastern Tennessee State, Princeton, Marshall and ACC foe North Carolina State. The three doubles matches were against College of Charleston.

Singles winners against N.C. State included Eleanor Peters defeating Lenka Hojckova, 3-6, 6-1, (10-8) and Lauren Wolman beating Pender Sessoms, 6-2, 6-0.

Also winning in singles play was junior Lisa Miller defeating Marshall's Thaddea Lock, 6-2, 6-2, Karin Lundmark defeating Klaudyna Kasztelaniec of William and Mary, 6-2, 6-3, Jordan Hansbrough defeating Eastern Tennessee's Andra Voinea, 6-2, 6-1 and Oksana Krutiyenko winning against Sarah Huah of Princeton, 6-4, 6-1.

Team captain Michal Amir who leads the team with six singles wins was unable to win either of her two singles matches Friday.

The Terrapins were flawless in their doubles matches against College of Charleston, winning all three matches. In the No. 1 position, Amir and Miller defeated Laura Borza and Kinsey Casey, 8-3. Peters and Hansbrough defeated Keely Mulligan and Holly Dowse, 8-3 from the No. 2 spot. Krutiyenko and Lundmark finished off the doubles sweep, beating Anna Lee Evans and Caroline Newman, 8-6.

Action continues Saturday with singles competition against University of North Carolina and doubles matches against Winthrop and UNC-Greensboro.
