Terps Defeat Virginia Tech, 6-1

College Park, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team opened ACC play on a strong note on Sunday afternoon, by defeating Virginia Tech, 6-1. With the win the Terps improved to 7-4 (1-0, ACC) on the season and now have won seven consecutive matches. The Terps began the day by dominating all three doubles matches to jump out to an early, 1-0 lead. Ramona But and Marianne Baker easily defeated Anat Elazari and Jessica Long, 8-1. Julia Graca and Jennifer Dent topped Kate Harrington and Ashley James, 8-2. Neda Mihneva and Tamar Huppes combined to defeat Laurie Calzadilla and Bethan James, 8-2. It was more of the same for the Terps in singles play as they won five of the six singles matches. But defeated Elazari, 6-4, 6-3. Dent fell to Jessica Long in the number two singles match, 6-3, 6-1. Baker topped Ashley James, 6-3, 6-1. Subertova was victorious over Bethan James, 6-4, 6-1. Mihneva defeated Kate Harrington, 6-2, 6-2. Huppes had no problem in her match defeating Meredith Holmes easily, 6-0, 6-0. The Terps will be back in action on March 18th when they travel to Florida State to take on the Seminoles. Singles
