Terps Look to Build Upon Past Success

Maryland plays host to Howard on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. to begin the season

As a Junior (2011-12): Did not see action.

As a Sophomore (2010-11): Saw limited action in dual meets ... recorded an 8-5 record in tournament singles.

As a Freshman (2009-10): Saw action in 10 of the Maryland's 11 conference matches ... Played predominantly at No. 6 doubles ... was one of two Terps to record double-digit singles victories ... along with Lexi Brand defeated Martina Pavelec of 50th-ranked Wake Forest 8-3 at No. 3 doubles (4/18).

Before Maryland: Member of the Turkish National Team ages 14, 16 and 18 ... Earned first place in Turkish Championships at 14 and 18 ... ITF ranking 581.

Personal: Parents are Mustafa and Nurhan Kurkan ... brother Dogus (23) plays tennis in Turkey ... currently enrolled as undecided in the College of Letters and Sciences.
