Bittles Named Women's Tennis Region I Rookie of the Year

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland freshman Lorraine Bittles has been named Women's Tennis NCAA Region I Rookie of the Year. The region consists of 82 teams in the eastern region of the United States. She qualifies as one of six finalists for National Rookie of the Year.

Bittles was named to the All-ACC team two weeks ago. She finished the season with a record of 9-10 against the nation's top competition while playing in the No. 1 slot all season. Bittles also posted a record of 4-4 in the ACC while playing for a Maryland team that finished the season ranked 43rd in the nation.
