Maryland Captures 2011 Terp Cup Crown
Nov. 19, 2011 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's swimming and diving team bested second place Towson by 680 points to capture the 2011 Terp Cup at Eppley Recreation Natatorium Saturday. Individual first place finishes included Ginny Glover in the 200 back (1:55.67), Megan Lafferty in the 100 free (48.97), Alexa Hamilton in the 200 breast (2:12.24) and Addison Koelle in the 200 fly (1:58.10). Both Glover's 200 back and Hamilton's 200 breast performances established new school records. Katie Hughes (third - 1:59.43), Melanie Busch (fifth - 2:00.44) and Victoria Cassidy (sixth - 2:00.53) followed Glover in the 200 back. Carolyn Fittin took second in the 100 free (50.01). Maryland also picked up additional points in the 200 breast from Laura Flewelling (2:13.08), Amy Halligan (2:17.31), and Ashley Cox (2:21.60) who finished second, third, and eighth, respectively. Jennifer Roberts (1:58.17) and Meggie Schmidt (2:02.85) touched the wall at second and sixth to aid the Terps in the 200 fly. Kacie Ciampoli finished second to lead Maryland in the 1650 free (16:42.22). Maryland also won the 400 free relay as the team of Fittin, Glover, Roberts and Lafferty (3:19.81) topped second place NC State by nearly five seconds.
"They did such a good job from top to bottom and they kept getting better and kept building on it," head coach Sean Schimmel said. "They really focused. It was a great experience six out of six sessions. They were awesome." Maryland returns to official competition Jan. 7, 2012 with a dual meet at Towson. Final Team Results
