COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's swimming and diving team improved their record to 8-0 today, beating the University of Richmond and Wingate in a double dual meet at home. The Terps downed Wingate 182-68 and beat Richmond 180-119.

The women were led by sophomore Elizabeth Lavell (Annapolis, Md.), sophomore Megan Knepper (Williamsport, Md.) and freshman Krisztina Kovacs (Budapest, Hungary), who all won two events for the Terps. Lavell won the 1650-yard freestyle (16:52.14) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.90), Knepper won the 100-yard backstroke (57.51) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.46) and Kovacs won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.12) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.39).

Other individual winners for the Terps were sophomore Cynthia Weir (Irwin, Pa.) in the 100-yard freestyle (52.34) and freshman Barbara Sumrall (Chattanooga, Tenn.) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.15).

The women also won both relay events at the meet, coming in first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.79) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.72)

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the pool Friday, Nov. 8, when they visit Villanova for a dual meet with the Wildcats. That meet is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
