AUBURN, Al. - The University of Maryland women's swimming and diving team completed their first day of competition at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, finishing the day in 30th place.

Senior Shandra Johnson (Omaha, Neb.), who has been battling the flu all week, was the top individual finisher for the Terps on the opening day of competition. She finished 12th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:47.04. Sophomore Elizabeth Lavell (Annapolis, Md.) finished 24th in the event (4:48.17).

Freshman Inbal Levavi (Ichud, Israel) swam the 200-yard individual medley and finished 25th with a time of 2:01.99.

Action resumes tomorrow in Auburn at 11 a.m.
