Terps Finish Competition in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The University of Maryland women's swimming and diving team wrapped their second day of competition, placing above Villanova (178-169), but falling to Penn State (268-83) and Pittsburgh (231-116).

In the second day of competition, Maryland saw a fourth place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Annie Fittin, Captain Emily Smoak, Jen Vogel and Maya Finkler finished with a time of 3:55.92.

Finkler also boasted a 1:54.71 in the 200-yard freestyle, capturing third place.

The Terps had two top-ten finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly. Vogel finished fifth with a time of 2:10.06 while Nina Rossi took ninth with a time of 2:12.96 in the 200-yard IM. Patty DeScenza finished sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.19) while Laura Jojic took ninth (2:12.55).

In the 50-yard freestyle, Fittin finished fifth with a time of 24.15 while Blair Cross followed close behind with a time of 24.58, taking sixth.

Eric Holmes took fourth place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.13. Holmes also captured the eighth spot in the 500-yard freestyle relay.

The Terps finished competition in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Smoak, Finkler, Cross and Fittin swam a 3:32.73 to take second in the heat.

In diving competition, Montana Puente finished 10th of 13 with a score of 198.55.
 

 

Maryland returns to action on Saturday, January 26, when they host NC State for the Terps' ACC season opener.
