Cathy Sursi joins the Terrapins after spending the last three years coaching at Auburn University. During her time at Auburn, Sursi helped coach the Tigers to five NCAA team championships, two on the women's side and three for the men. She also got to work with multiple Olympic medalists as well as world and American record holders. While at Auburn, her primary responsibilities included on-deck coaching of both men and women, recruiting high school athletes, working with Auburn's equipment sponsors and video analysis.
Maryland is now excited to have her working for the Terps. "Having Cathy's level of experience on my staff will bring an immediate impact on our athletes at both the conference and NCAA level. She combines the elements of a young, up and coming coach with a great female presence on the deck" said Head coach Dave Durden. "Cathy is a great technician of the sport and adds to Maryland's philosophy of cognitive swimming."
Before coaching, Sursi was four year letter winner for Auburn from 1996-2000. She achieved All-American status in the 400IM and 200 breaststroke and was named captain of the Auburn Tigers her junior and senior years. She graduated from Auburn with a bachelor's degree in communications in 2000 and a master's in exercise science in 2004.
