Joshua Garner joined the University of Maryland swimming and diving program in September of 2008 as an assistant coach for the Terps.

Garner previously served as an assistant coach at UMBC for the Terriers swim team. While at UMBC, he coached multiple champions and top three finishers in distance events. He is also responsible for recruiting the largest and most productive class in school history.

During his tenure at UMBC, he also coached athletes ages 12-15 in the Senior Developmental Group at the nearby Retriever Aquatic Club in Baltimore where he developed numerous Maryland LSC state champions and National Age Group Recognition Swimmers & Sectional qualifiers.

Prior to joining UMBC's coaching staff, Garner also held an assistant coaching position with the University of Virginia swim team. He assisted the Cavaliers with deck coaching in all training groups as well as video analysis and coordinated sport psychology education for the squad.

Garner is a graduate of Connecticut College with a bachelor's degree in psychology.
