Sean Schimmel has assembled a premiere coaching staff with assistant coaches John Pontz, Meredith Eyler and Erica Janssen as well as diving coach Anton Slobounov.
Pontz was Schimmel’s first hire as he was appointed assistant coach in June of 2008. Since then, Pontz has played a vital role in recruiting as the Terps have only just begun to climb both the national and ACC standings. Click here for his full bio.
Eyler joined the Maryland coaching staff in July of 2009 after spending three years as an assistant at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington. She was an important part of Maryland’s leap to 25th overall at the 2010 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. Click here for her full bio.
Janssen is joining the Terps in 2010 after serving as the interim head swimming and diving coach at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for two years. During that time, UWM’s men’s squad won its first Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championship team title since 2000. Click here for her full bio.
Slobounov is Maryland’s longest tenured coach on staff, as he embarks on his fourth season at the helm of the diving squad in 2010. The son of former Russian Olympic Diving coach Sam Slobounov, he is responsible for helping Maryland garner extensive points off the board. Click here for his full bio.
