Cortney Madea Earns Academic All-America Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland junior Cortney Madea (Northampton, Pa.) has been named to the 1999 GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America third team. It marks the first time Madea has earned academic All-America honors. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Madea was an NCAA Tournament All-Region 2 selection this past season as the Terps played in the NCAA softball tournament for the first time in school history. She hit a three-run home run during the NCAA tournament to help lead the No. 21 Terps to a 7-3 victory over No. 3 Arizona on May 22. Madea hit .255 with six home runs, nine doubles and a career-high tying 33 RBI during the season. She was also credited with a career-high 55 hits.
Madea boasts a 3.86 grade point average in Government and Politics. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has twice selected her as an All-America Scholar-Athlete.
