Burrell Selected To 2001 All-ACC Softball Team
May 10, 2001 RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior centerfielder Michelle Burrell (Owego, N.Y.) was announced a 2001 All-ACC selection at the banquet to kick off the conference's 10th annual championships. Burrell became the 11th softball player in Maryland history to be listed on the all-conference squad after leading the Terrapins throughout the 2001 regular season. Burrell, a four-year starter and three in centerfield, has only missed two games in her entire career and lists second all-time with 235. During her senior season, the Terps' leadoff batter tied for the ACC lead and set a single-season school record with 17 doubles. She also paces the Maryland squad with a .317 batting average, 32 runs scored, 60 hits, 83 total bases and a perfect seven-for-seven in stolen bases. That total makes Burrell tied for the all-time lead in career stolen bases at 25. The 2001 ACC Softball Championship begins tomorrow in Raleigh at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex. The No. 5 seeded Terrapins battle the fourth-seeded Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to begin the event at 3 p.m.
