Sarah Putnam Named To 2000 ACC All-Tournament Team
May. 2, 2000 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Maryland softball senior Sarah Putnam (Chesapeake, Va.) was included on the list of ACC all-tournament honorees, announced at the conclusion of the 2000 ACC Softball Tournament on Sunday. The third baseman was 4-for-12 (.333) in four games, belting a double and driving in three runs while playing solid defense at the "hot corner" all weekend. Putnam was integral in helping the Terrapins to two ACC Tournament victories, a 2-1 decision over Georgia Tech and a 4-3 conquest of North Carolina. The two wins, which earned Maryland a third-place tournament finish, were the most for the Terps since Maryland and Florida State shared the tournament championship in 1997.
The senior adds the ACC all-tourney honor to a resume that includes another prestigious award. In 1999 during the Terps NCAA tournament run, Putnam was named to the NCAA Tournament All-Region 2 team.
Maryland (28-25, 3-3 ACC, 4-4 SASA) resumes regular season play in an ACC doubleheader when tournament champion Florida State (44-25, 2-2 ACC, 4-2 SASA) comes to College Park for "Senior Day." Prior to the final home softball event's 3 p.m. start, Putnam and fellow Terp senior Cortney Madea (Northampton, Pa.) will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
