Softball's Second Victory at Georgia Tech, 5-0

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Sophomore Cortney Madea pounded out three hits and had three RBI to lead Maryland to a 5-0 victory over Georgia Tech in college softball at Glenn Field here this afternoon. During the Terps two game sweep of the Yellow Jackets over the last two days, Madea was five-for-eight (.625 batting average), had two doubles, one home runs and six RBI.

Maryland is now 15-9 overall and 2-0 in the ACC while Georgia Tech falls to 11-14 and 0-4 in the ACC.

Madea smacked a run scoring single in the third inning; a run scoring double in the fifth and added another run scoring single in the seventh. The 1997 First team All-ACC selection tied her career-high with three hits in a single game.

Junior second baseman Amy Sandler and junior pitcher Kelly Shipman recorded multiple hits games to help pace the Terps' 11-hit offensive attack. Sandler had one of two extra base hits for the Terps as she had a double in the seventh inning and later scored Maryland's fifth run if the day.

Juniors Tisha Killian and Kelly Shipman combined to shutout the Yellow Jackets on five hits. Killian allowed only four hits while striking out one in four innings while Shipman allowed only one hit over the final two innings of the game.
