Softball Posts a Pair of No-Hitters in Back-to-Back 18-0 Routs
March 15, 1998 COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- In a flawless all-around doubleheader, the Terps dominated the University of Maryland at Eastern Shore by a combined 36-0 as sophomore All-America candidate Kelly Shipman and junior Tisha Killian each pitched no-hitters for the defending ACC champions. From the plate, both Shipman and freshman Jennifer Potzman went 4 for 4 on the afternoon as Potzman homered three times and Shipman cleared the fence as a pinch-hitter in the second game. The doubleheader began as the Terps scored 12 runs in the first inning of the opening game. As Shipman struck out 13 of the 15 UMES batters from the mound, she also scored three runs. Of the sixteen Terps to bat, 12 crossed the plate at least once during the game. In the second game, UMCP exploded in the second inning, once again scoring twelve runs. Potzman, and juniors Fawna Lackovic and Amy Sandler each scored three runs. Killian had seven strikeouts and a third inning walk was the only blemish keeping her from a perfect game. The Terps move to 12-5 on the season and will travel to Long Island for a 2:30 game on Tuesday afternoon.
