Softball Splits Doubleheader

TOWSON, Md. - Sophomore Cortney Madea hit a three-run homer as the University of Maryland earned a dobleheader split with Towson University on Saturday afternoon.

The Terps won the second game by the score of 5-3, after Towson won the opener 2-1. After spotting Towson a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game, Maryland rallied for four runs in the third inning to salvage the second game. With two outs in the fourth inning, Fawna Lackovic singled. After a double byJennifer Potzman moved Lackovic to third, Madea homered to centerfield to tie the game.

A walk to junior Kelly Shipman preceded a run-scoring double by sophomore Jessica Krug. Junior Trish Killian picked up the win, holding Towson to a pair of first inning hits. In the opener, sophomore Sara Rumrill threw a three-hitter at the Terps in a 2-1 win. She beat Maryland for the second time this season.

The Tigers rallied from a 1-0 deficit to beat Shipman. Sophomore second baseman Julie Ciccarelli capped a two-run rally in the fifth inning with an RBI single.
