March 7, 1998

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The University of Maryland softball team, hosting its first-ever Terrapin Invitational, split its first two games of the tournament this afternoon, defeating Drexel, 2-1, in the early game, and dropping a 3-2 eight-inning decision to Princeton. The Terps are now 9-4 overall and will play UMBC tomorrow at 11 a.m. for the right to meet Princeton in the championship game which will be played tomorrow at 1 p.m.

In the early game, junior pitcher Tisha Killian picked up her fifth win of the season, and scored one of the Terps two runs. Junior infielder Amy Sandler scored the other Terp run. Maryland recorded nine hits in the game.

In the nightcap, junior pitcher Kelly Shipman pitched well but the Terps failed to bring the baserunners home, stranding many batters. They managed to record nine hits. Shipman falls to 4-3 on the season.
