Softball Sweeps Two Games at East Carolina Pirate Classic

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The University of Maryland softball team improved its record to 6-3 overall this afternoon at the East Carolina Pirate Classic. The Terps recorded a 8-0 six-inning win over George Mason in the early game, and then handed Delaware a 2-0 defeat in the later game.

The Terps recorded 12 hits and junior infielder Kelly Shipman was 2-for-3 at the plate while freshman Jennifer Potzman went 2-for-4. Junior pitcher Tisha Killian led the Terps on the mound, allowing only one hit and striking out five Patriot batters. She is now 3-1 on the season.

In the second game, the Terps scored runs off of freshman Angie Zittle and junior Amy Sandler. Sandler scored an RBI by Shipman. Shipman won her fourth game of the season, striking out eight and allowing only two hits. It was her second shutout of the season.

Maryland continues tournament play tomorrow, earning the No. 1 seed and are scheduled to play at 9 a.m. in the single-elimination format.
