GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Junior pitcher Kelly Shipman pitched her second career perfect game this afternoon as she led Maryland to a 9-0 five-inning win over Maryland-Baltimore County at the East Carolina Pirate Classic. Shipman recorded five strikeouts in the win. She is now 2-2 on the year.

The Terps collected 10 hits against the Retrievers, including a lead-off double for Shipman. She scored three runs and was 2-for-3 at the plate. Freshman Jennifer Potzman was 4-for-4 including a double.

In the earlier game, the Terps would drop a 3-2 decision to Towson behind the pitching of junior Tisha Killian. The Terps struggled offensively, getting only four hits off the Tiger pitching staff. The Terps also had two errors. Sophomore Cortney Madea was the only highlight of the afternoon as she was 2-for-3 from the plate, including a triple which scored Shipman in the first inning. Shipman led off in the first inning with a single.

The Terps are now 4-3 overall and continue tournament play tomorrow against George Mason (9 a.m.) and Delaware (1 p.m.). If the Terps should lose one of those games, they would begin single-elimination play at 3 p.m. tomorrow. If, however, they should win both games tomorrow, they would begin single-elimination play on Sunday.
