On Shellhammer: A veteran hurler who transferred from Radford University … recovered nicely from a stress fracture in her pitching forearm … a “big-game,” “go-to” pitcher … fierce competitor who wants the ball … possesses excellent command of her pitches … broke into the Maryland pitching record book after only one season as a Terp … fifth all-time in career ERA (3.12) and strikeouts (63) … sixth all-time in wins (8) … seventh in career appearances (22).

As a Junior in 2000: Ranked second on the pitching staff with eight wins, 22 appearances, 96.1 innings pitched and 32 strikeouts despite arm injury that sidelined her for nearly a month … posted a 2-1 record in ACC/SASA conference play with a team-leading 2.07 ERA … combined with Amanda Bettker to earn a no-hit, shutout victory at George Mason (April 20) … credited with a complete game shutout against then-No. 18 South Carolina (March 9) at the Speedline Invitational … went 1-0 at the event, scattering 10 hits through 13 innings and striking out eight to earn ACC Pitcher of the Week accolades (March 13) … recovered from injury to toss a one-hit shutout over then-No. 24 East Carolina (April 16) as the Terps hung on for a 1-0 victory … posted a 2-1 record in five appearances immediately following injury, allowing two runs in 22 innings (0.65 ERA) and striking out 10 … was 2-1 vs. ranked teams with 12 strikeouts in five appearances … went 1-0 at the ACC Tournament, earning a win over Georgia Tech (April 30) and a save vs. North Carolina (April 30) … allowed only one earned run in seven total innings (1.00 ERA) and struck out five … fanned a season-high eight batters against Campbell (Feb. 19) at the Triangle Classic.

Before Maryland: A two-year veteran of Radford University softball … was the No. 1 pitcher for the Highlanders in 1999 as a sophomore … turned in a stingy 1.68 ERA in 1999 … a second team All-Big South selection as a freshman in 1998 … set the Radford school record for strikeouts in a game with 14 against Longwood … a graduate of Allentown Central High School in 1997 … named Fastpitch Magazine high school All-American following her senior season … garnered East Penn first team honors that same year.
