Watten on Ghent: "Lauren joined our program as a late walk-on last spring and saw little action last season. However, she dedicated herself to consistent, grueling workouts throughout the summer, as well as last fall, and has put herself in position to be a great asset to our program, both offensively and defensively. Lauren has a very enthusiastic and contagious attitude, which is the reason she has been able to grow so much over the past year." As a Freshman (2008): A walk-on for the Terps ... appeared in 14 games, starting two ... one of the top defensive substitutes on the team and a key pinch runner ... scored three runs and stole one base ... scored first run at NC State on April 13 ... stole second base and ultimately scored at Towson on April 30. Before Maryland: A four-year letterwinner at Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, Md. ... receipient of the Maureen Lonergan Award her senior year in 2007 as a result of her commitment to athletics, academics and maintaining a positive attitude ... won the Coaches Award for the Roadrunners in 2006 ... a two-time All-Gazette nominee ... played club softball for the Greenbelt Angels ... coached by Rita Horning.
