Commitment to Excellence
The University of Maryland athletics department continued in 2009-10 to show its excellence across its vast array of varsity teams.
Highlighted by national championships in women’s lacrosse and competitive cheer, the Terrapins were again one of the nation’s most versatile and broad-based programs.
Maryland teams won six regular-season or tournament championships in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Men’s basketball, field hockey, wrestling and women’s lacrosse teams finished atop the league standings in their sports. Field hockey and women’s lacrosse earned championships in ACC postseason play.
Eighteen teams earned trips to postseason competition, once again showing Maryland’s excellence in a variety of sports.
Based on its finishes in NCAA national championships, Maryland finished in the top 30 in the nation among Division I institutions in the Learfield Sports Directors Cup sponsored by NACDA.
