Terps Earn No. 4 Seed In NCAA Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team has earned a No. 4 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament and will host Stony Brook in the tournament's first round. The seventh-ranked Terrapins will take on the Seawolves on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Ludwig Field at 7 p.m.
Maryland, which is one of 64 teams selected to play in the tournament, is making its 13th overall appearance and boasts a record of 13-6-2. Stony Brook is 12-6-3 overall and is making its first appearance in the NCAA tournament after earning an automatic bid by winning the America East tournament.
The Terrapins have a 2-0-0 all-time record against Stony Brook, winning by a 2-0 score in 2006 and again in 2010.
This is the second season for the 1-2-1-2 format that features 32 first round games played at campus sites. The winners of the first round games will move on to a second and third round pod at the site of the highest remaining team in the pod on the weekend of Nov. 16-18.
The winner of the Maryland-Stony Brook match will play the winner of the Denver-Colorado College match. The other half of the pod has Santa Clara hosting Long Beach State and Idaho State traveling to No. 1 seed Stanford.
Tickets for the Saturday's first round match are $7 for adults and $4 for students, youth and seniors. Advance tickets are available through the Maryland ticket office by calling 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
During the regular season the Terps faced nine teams that made it into the 2012 tournament field, including six seeded teams. Florida State earned a No. 1 seed, while North Carolina and Virginia are No. 2 seeds. Wake Forest and Duke were named the No. 3 seeds, while Ohio State is a No. 4 seed. Boston College, Virginia Tech and Miami made the tournament as unseeded teams.
