COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapin women's soccer finishes its four-game ACC home stand with No. 9 Virginia on Thursday, Oct. 16. The Terps and the Cavaliers are set for a 7 p.m. start at Ludwig Field.

Scouting The Cavaliers

• Virginia, ranked ninth in this week's Soccer America poll, is 10-2-1 (4-1-0 ACC) on the season, is coming off a stunning 1-0 loss at Virginia Tech last Thursday. The Cavaliers will have been off for seven days prior to playing the Terps.

• Offensively, three Cavaliers have more than 10 points on the season, led by sophomore forward Meghan Lenczyk with 21 points on 10 goals and one assist. Defensively, the Wahoos have given up only eight goals this season and have only allowed just 26 (2.0 per game) shots on goal.

• Head Coach Steve Swanson is in his ninth season at the helm of the UVa program, compiling a record of 123-45-21 (.706). Overall he has a career record as a head coach of 227-110-32 (.659) in 19 seasons.

Kaplan Honored By Soccer Buzz
• Freshman Becky Kaplan was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week for her efforts against No. 9 Florida State and Miami.

• Kaplan, a defender from Oyster Bay, N.Y., helped hold the Seminoles, who are averaging nearly three goals per game in 2008, scoreless in regulation in FSU's 1-0 win in overtime. She also played a key role in the Terps' 1-0 win over Miami on Oct. 5, helping limit the Hurricanes to just five shots and clearing a rebound from in front of the Maryland net in the final minutes of the second half to preserve the victory.

• Kaplan has seen action in all 13 of Maryland's matches this season. She has started 10 of those matches at three different positions - offensive center midfielder, defensive center midfielder and center back, where she's played the last eight matches.

Already A Career Year
• For Maryland senior forward Kaila Sciascia, the 2008 season has already been a career year. The native of East Northport, N.Y., has already set season bests for goals (6) and points (13) and tied her season-high of one assist.

Record-Setting Day
• Several records fell or were tied during Maryland's 10-0 romp over Mount St. Mary's on Sept. 21.

Youth Movement
• In Maryland's season opening 5-0 win over George Mason, a total of 19 Terps saw the field. Of those 19, 12 were either freshmen or sophomores. Six of the Terps' starting 11 were either freshmen (2) or sophomores (4).

• Through 13 games in 2008 here's a breakdown of games played and started by class (143 possible starts):

Playing Overtime
• The 0-0 tie with Eastern Kentucky last season marked the third-straight home opener that has ended in a scoreless tie. In 2005 and 2006 the Terps played to a 0-0 draw against Towson.

• During the three-plus seasons under Coach Pensky, Maryland has played 22 overtime games (33% of its total games [66]) with a record of 2-8-12 in those games.

• The Terps played eight overtime matches last season tying the program record for overtime games in a season. Maryland was 1-4-3 in OT a year ago. The 2004 team also played in eight overtime contests, going 2-2-4.

At Ludwig Field
• Since its opening in 1995, Ludwig Field has proved to be a tremendous home-field advantage for the Terps women's soccer team. All-time Maryland is 89-43-15 (.656) at Ludwig Field.

• Through the seasons, the Terps have had a knack for shutting teams out at Ludwig Field. Maryland has won 62 of its 89 victories (69.7%) at Ludwig Field via shutout. Add in the nine 0-0 ties the Terps have had at Ludwig Field and it totals 71 times that Maryland has shutout its opponent in 147 games (48.3%).

• WMUC Radio: Maryland's student radio station WMUC (88.1 FM) will broadcast most home Maryland women's soccer games in 2008 and select road games.
