COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's soccer coach Shannon Higgins-Cirovski announced that senior goalkeeper Ali Wolff and sophomore defender Lindsay Givens have been selected as team captains for the 2001 season.

"I have never had two such strong leaders in my years of coaching," said Higgins-Cirovski. "Everything that Ali does, as she has shown during her career, makes her a great leader on and off the field.

"With Lindsay, she is so organized on the field and has been an intergral part of our program for the last two years, she really adds a lot to the team."

For Wolff, it is her second year as a captain also serving in that role during the 2000 season while she redshirted. It is the first time Givens has been named a captain, she also redshirted last season.

Wolff ranks among the all-time leaders in Maryland history in goalkeeper stats, playing in 49 games and recording a 1.84 goals against average. Her 11.5 career shutouts rank fourth all-time.

Givens was named a freshman All-American by Soccer Buzz as well as a member of the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic third team and Mid-Atlantic All-Freshman honors in 1999.

The Terps kick off their 2001 season by hosting Towson on August 31 at Ludwig Field.
