Terrapins Fall to No. 4 Connecticut
STORRS, Conn. - Carmie Landeen scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 77th minute, to lead the fourth-ranked Connecticut Huskies past 18th-ranked Maryland in women's soccer action on the campus of the University of Connecticut.
The game, played in a heavy rain, was tightly contested throughout. The Huskies jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Jen Carlson headed in a corner kick. Michelle Salmon knotted the score in the 39th minute, firing a shot from 17 yards into the upper right corner of the net, and the teams went to halftime tied at one.
Landeen returned the lead to Connecticut with a goal in the 51st minute before the Terrapins countered with a goal by Jackie Mynarski less than 10 minutes later to even the score once again. Landeen then notched the game-winner, converting from close range following a scramble in front of the net.
With the victory, UConn improves to 18-2-0 on the season, while Maryland drops to 10-6-2.
