COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Jasmyne Spencer's goal in the 62nd minute capped off another amazing come-from-behind victory for the No. 3/5 University of Maryland women's soccer team as it knocked off No. 8/9 Florida State 2-1 Thursday night at Ludwig Field.

With the victory the Terps now stand at 14-2-1 overall on the season and are 6-2-1 in the ACC. The Seminoles fall to 12-4-1 overall this year and are now 6-2-1 in conference play. Both squads are tied for second in the ACC standing with Virginia with 19 points, but Maryland holds victories over the Seminoles and the Cavaliers.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Terps out-shoot FSU 11-6, Florida State came out of the break and took a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute on Janice Cayman's ninth goal of the season.

But, as they have done so often this season, the Terrapins roared right back and tied the match 11 minutes later. Junior Domenica Hodak made a great run down the right seem and was drew a foul roughly 25 yards from the goal. Senior Colleen Deegan took the free kick and sent a blast left of the Seminole wall and inside of the left pipe, tying the match at 1-1.

Maryland, which only had three shots in the second half, used the momentum swing to take its first lead of the game in the 62nd minute. Senior Caitlin McDowell sent a simple ball to Spencer, who dribbled inside the Seminole 18 and struck a great ball that beat FSU keeper Kelsey Wys to give Maryland the 2-1 lead.

The Terrapin defense, which was solid throughout the match, made the one-goal lead stand-up. The most dangerous opportunity for the Seminoles came in the 71st minute when Toni Pressley hit a free kick from 70 yards that took an in-between hop inside the Maryland six, but redshirt junior keeper Yewande Balogun, who finished with four saves, reacted well and punched the ball over the crossbar to preserve the Terrapins' lead.

"We continue to be the comeback kids, so to speak," said Maryland head coach Brian Pensky. "Our team showed composure and resilience after giving up a goal early in the second half. In years past, maybe we don't react and respond in the same way, but our team has a confidence and swagger about itself that allows us to battle back and get a win. We're a very determined bunch right now and we're not a group that getting too high or too low based on any one result. So, we'll being that same determination on Sunday against a very good Miami team."

Maryland returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 31, when the Terps host Miami at Ludwig Field at 1 p.m. Prior to the game the Terps will honor their 2010 senior class of Colleen Deegan, Molly Dresak, McDowell, Olivia Onyeador and Erika Theisen.

• Maryland's 14 regular season wins is the third most in school history, trailing on the 1995 team that won 15 regular season wins and the 1996 squad that had 17.
• Jasmyne Spencer's goals gives her 19 for her career, tying her for 9th on the all-time goals list with Katie Ludwig.
• Spencer's two points gives her 48 for her career, moving her into 10th on the all-time points.
• Spencer took six shots vs. the Seminoles, giving her 142 for her career, moving her into ninth on the all-time list.
• Spencer's goal was also the eighth game-winning goal of her career, which ties her with Jackie Mynarski and Kimmy Francis for fourth all-time at Maryland.
• Caitlin McDowell's assists gives her 21 for her career. She needs just two more to tie Kimmy Francis for fourth on the all-time assist list.
