Maryland Women's Soccer Upended By Virginia Tech, 1-0

Oct. 19, 2008

Final Stats

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Virginia Tech Sunday evening at the VT Soccer Stadium in Blacksburg, Va.

The Terps battled the Hokies to a scoreless first half. Maryland had its best scoring opportunity in the 29th minute on a free kick by Aimee Bresani following a yellow card issued to Virginia Tech's Kim Hickey.

The second half was much of the same; with neither team able to get into an offensive rhythm. But, in the 89th minute, it was the Hokies who managed to get on the board and secure the victory on an unassisted goal by Emily Jukich.

Junior keeper Mary Casey made three saves for the Terps, who were without freshman center back Becky Kaplan for much of the match. Kaplan had to leave the game in the 42nd minute due to an injured foot.

Maryland (5-9-1/1-6-0 ACC) returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 23 when it travels to Chestnut Hill, Mass., for a 7 p.m. match at No. 13 Boston College.
