NC State Scores Late Goals To Top Terps, 1-0 In Women's Soccer

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - NC State's Carmen Israel knocked in a loose ball off a scramble in the box with 6:24 left in regulation to lift the Wolfpack to a 1-0 victory over Maryland in ACC women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon before 1,066 enthusiastic fans at Ludwig Field.
"Our team has a lot of character," said head coach Shannon Higgins-Cirovski. "We just have to keep fighting. We are a better team and we will continue to battle on."
Maryland (5-6-0, 0-3-0 ACC) which was outshot by NC State, 17-13, had several scoring opportunities in the second half but was unable to capitalize.
Maryland senior keeper Riki-Ann Serrins (Mission Viejo, Calif.) made six saves for the Terps, as she lowered her goals against average to 1.18 for the 2000 season. NC State keeper Gretchen Lear made five saves to earn her second straight shutout. The Wolfpack improved to 7-4-1, 1-1-0 in the ACC.
The Terps will continue their four-game homestand as they welcome No. 13 Virginia to Ludwig Field on Friday night, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
