Women's Soccer Opens Tourney with Victory

BOULDER, Colo.- Senior forwards Keri Sarver and Emmy Harbo each scored one goal and added one assist to lead Maryland to a 3-1 victory over Texas in the first round of the University of Colorado Invitational at Pleasant View Soccer Complex this afternoon. Sarver and Harbo, who are waging a game-by-game battle for the all-time school record, have now scored 49 goals each during their careers.
Maryland, which has now won four consecutive games, improves to 5-3-0 with the victory. Texas falls to 2-3-0.
Texas got on the board first at the 9:06 mark of the first half on an own goal. The Terps then scored three unanswered goals to win the game.
Sarver scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season at the 34:11 mark. Harbo and senior defender Laura Varela assisted her. Sarver returned the favor as she assisted Harbo on Marylands third goal of the game at the 71:24 mark. The goals marked the 28th and 29th occasions that one had setup the other for a goal in the last four years.
In between the goals by Sarver and Harbo, junior midfielder Emily Janss scored on a penalty kick. The goal was her first of the season.
Maryland, which outshot Texas 21-8, will face Colorado in the second round of the invitational Sunday at 4:00 p.m. EST.
